In commenting on the dramatic sin of idolatry, the making of the golden calf, which will soon happen in Israel at the foot of Mount Sinai where this commandment was given, F. B. Meyer said, Had anyone suggested that Israel would apostatize from the God of Abraham, they would have stoned him to death. They had no desire to break the first commandment and to have other Gods than Jehovah, but they found the demand of the second commandment too vigorous. They must have an image, a visible representation,
